Wilsons fame was surpassed by the U.S. in 2014, when she landed a role as a character on Showtimes The Affair. In the show, she was Alison Lockhart who is a young, troubled girl from a dark background. Lockhart falls for an unmarried Noah Solloway. Wilson was awarded a Golden Globe award for Best Actress for a Television Series Drama, alongside Mauratierney and Joshua Jackson. Wilson said in British Vogue: "I love the fact that I am able to play characters with two different perspectives." Noah sees Alison as a attractive, sexy and confident model. Her self-image is seen in a completely different light. On the inside Alison isn't confident and is looking to be a part of the background. Wilson also stated that she does not believe America is morally skewed. In 2018 Wilson quit the show to surprise of fans however she was vague on the information. In an interview in August of 2018 on CBS This Morning, Wilson stated that she did wish to leave the show but did not have the right to talk about the reasons behind her departure. Wilson has recently shifted her attention to films. She was in 2016 when she starred in the role of The Pretty Thing in the house in the horror movie I Am the Pretty Thing. In 2017, she was the mysterious PT Stella, in the sci fi rom com How to Talk to Girls in Parties. To add to her horror credits Wilson is also set to appear in the British movie version of The Little Stranger. The supernatural thriller was adapted from a Sarah Waters' novel. Wilson is also the executive producer of the movie.
